About Us

Some people are too far away to hug. Some pets have crossed the rainbow bridge. Some moments — a wedding day, a graduation, the first photo of the whole family together — deserve more than a phone screen. We started Mimikin to put those faces into something you can hold.

Handmade, never printed

Every Mimikin is crocheted by hand, one stitch at a time, from soft cotton yarn. There is no mould, no machine and no template we stamp a face onto. Our artisans study your photo the way a portrait painter would: the parting of the hair, the shape of the glasses, the stripe on the sweater, the patch over one eye of your dog. Then they build it in yarn.

A 15 cm doll takes around two full days of work. A family of five takes a week. That is the honest reason our dolls are not instant — and the reason they look like your people, not a generic doll in the right colours.

Checked before it ships

Ordering something handmade from a photo shouldn’t feel like a gamble. So before anything leaves our studio, we check every piece against your photos and notes — the parting of the hair, the stripe on the sweater, Grandpa’s cardigan buttons. The more you tell us when you order, the closer we get.

What we believe

  • Details are the gift. The freckles, the lucky cap, the bandana — the small things are what make someone say “that’s him”.
  • Slow is fine. We would rather take an extra day than ship a doll that is almost right.
  • Real people answer. Email us and a person on our team replies within 24 hours.

Dolls today, more keepsakes tomorrow

We started with crochet dolls because they are the warmest way we know to capture a person. But Mimikin is about one idea — turning the people and pets you love into handmade keepsakes — and we are already working on what comes next. Join our list to be the first to see it.
